Den Yakovlev is still a young man in the beginning stages of his career although you would never guess that from the sophisticated talent he shows in his tattoo work. Portraiture is the most difficult of all tattoo styles. I don’t think that anyone can deny that capturing a likeness of a person, whether it is with pen and ink or machine and ink, is difficult at best. At least with other mediums there may be ways to correct a stroke or go over an area of the art work that doesn’t quite look right. Creating a portrait tattoo has to be much more exact and precise with little room for error. He is especially talented at capturing a life like skin color for his portraits which enhances the realism.
From what I’ve read, Den plans on doing a lot of traveling from his home base in Russia. It would be a good idea to see if you can catch him on the tattoo convention circuit.
