The story of Austina Obscure is interesting and uplifting.
Austina Obscure is a female tattoo artist and body piercer who works at Holier Than Thou Tattoo in Wyoming, Pennsylvania. She’s fairly new to the business although you wouldn’t be able to tell that from her artwork. She attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia for graphic design but left art school in 2009 to begin a career in tattooing.
Her original trade was as a traveling piercer but she eventually opened up her own studio and learned to tattoo from that point.
The artists she respects and admires include Nick Baxter, Juan Salgado, Jeff Ensminger, Jonathan Montalvo, Tommy Lee Wendtner, and Victor Portugal.
Obscure favors dark subjects, organic textures, painting with oils, using skin as canvas, nature, animal rights (YES!), vampires, and the mysterious and unexplained. In regard to tattooing – she loves all styles and hasn’t really settled into anything specific yet and she is versatile in regard to her tattoo style.
