Tattoo Artist: Guen Douglas
Guen Douglas is currently located in Ottawa Canada and work at Planet Ink. Although born in Ottawa, she spent her childhood in the UK.
Art runs in Douglas’s family. Her mom is a graphic designer and art teacher. Her brother got his degree in animation.
She did her tattoo apprenticeship in 2005 at Planet ink and says her first year as an artist she offered to do free tattoo work. She stuck to smaller and easier designs like Kanji and small tribal tattoos. She wasn’t “allowed” to do color until 2007.
Her influences include the old school classics – Ed Hardy, Sailor Jerry, and Mike Malone. She is into color and is attracted to comic book art. She says her approach to her color work is more modern than the classics. Her influences include Julian Garner, Barry Buteau, and Steve Moore.
