Mike Devries is actually a newbie to tattooing but you would never guess that based on his quality skin art. Originally from California and still residing there, Mike began an apprenticeship in 2003 with Jim Hayek that saved him from a career in construction. He got his first tattoo at the age of 16 with his parents permission and has been addicted ever since. He said that the art of tattooing came naturally as he studied and paid attention whenever he was getting ink himself. Which was often. He’s a hard core tattoo collector as well as being an artist. Since getting he got his first tattoo, he gets tattooed on a regular basis. At first it was two visits a week but with his now hectic schedule, he has cut back. Space limitation have also caused him to start lasering off the older ink, to make room for more quality pieces.
He has recently experimented with other mediums beginning with painting in acrylics and hoping to expand into oils. His art inspirations include Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher.
Devries is a driven artist that is active on the convention circuit, conducts seminars, has written books, and has a series of tattoo instructional DVD’s.
Mike is a huge movie buff and claims he watches a new one almost every night. He likes to paint images from movies.
