Miya got his start tattooing back in the early 90’s, when he lived in the projects, as a way to make money. Tattooing allowed him to make money with his art. It offered him a way to live. His life revolves around art but when you need to survive, your choices become limited. After picking up a tattoo machine out of necessity, Miya said he ended up falling in love with the tattoo culture.
He moved to Georgia seeking an apprenticeship at the age of 19. He was intelligent enough to know that learning from a professional should be his next step and would help advance his technique.
Miya keeps busy as his career blossoms and the demands for his talent grows but he is taking some time off to complete a documentary he’s been working on. It’s about the struggles facing black artists.
